One Day, One Picture

So you are the new kid on the block, the newest wet behind the viewfinder photographer looking to score your first paying gig. Of course there is always someone out there who wants their picture taken and who will pay you some cash to do it, but where oh where do you find them.

For many photographers the social networking sites are becoming the go to place to get real paying clients.

MySpace, FaceBook…and the like are great spots to find folks looking for photos.

In a recent unscientific survey (me asking my photog friends) I found that a high percentage of photographers are using MySpace not just to network with friends, but to drum up business as well. And most of them aren’t really doing much to get the business flowing in.

One photog has set up his page as a gallery of images of the numerous MySpace profile pictures he has shot. With more and more employers looking at the MySpace pages of potential hires, having your best look on your page is very important.

Additionally, many up and coming models, muscians and local TV stars are using MySpace and FaceBook to market themselves to potential hiring agents. These folks are usually happy to pay for nice photos instead of the ones their friend took with their camera phone.

So while many people view MySpace as just a spot for kids, it can be a huge boon to your business if you keep yourself on the professional side of things.
