That is what everyone keeps telling me. It's just money right? LOL...see this is why I need a JOB, which takes time away from photography...LOL!

I don't really have the cash for a D700 or a MKII, the price of 5Ds are falling on the used market so I should be able to afford one in the next few months...and the price of the 40D is hitting rock bottom. I thought I got mine for a steal of a price and now see new ones for about $100 less than I paid for mine through B&H back in May. Used prices are making almost jump on another one for a second body just on GP.

Believe me....once you go full format, you won't go back! Working with my XTi after I've been shooting with my 5D is incredibly disappointing even though that XTi served me well during my first year of photography. I don't have the cash for a MKII, so another 5D may be in my future, and I'm thinking about that 40D just for the speed factor. Ah..photography...it's a never-ending sickness!

Yeah, I am watching the market start to flood with used 5D's as people prepare to grab up the MKIIs. To the point i am seriously considering grabbing a used 5D and using that for my portrait stuff and just keeping my 40D for the sports stuff.

At least that way I can stick with one set of glass that will work for both...as long as I buy the correct glass that is.

I think the camera you purchase must really depend on the type of shots you want to take. For me as a portrait photographer, 21 mega pixels would be more important to me than alot of speed. If you continue to shoot sports and events, then speed would be more important. Ultimately, to be the best prepared for whatever situation you may be shooting in, I would opt for a camera with lots of mega pixels for portraits and then get a second that has the speed you need too if you can afford it. We all generally need at least two cameras for whatever event we are covering, so try getting the best of both worlds.

Great post Chester. I couldn't agree with you more. Having taken a hobby and turned it into a career and ending up HATING it, I will not make that mistake again. I take photos of the things that inspire me...occasionally that leads me to collect some amount of money from photography, but I call that my play money because I just can't factor it in to the fun I am having.

Since I spent the summer doing mostly photography related "work", I know there is money to be made from it, but I quickly found that the day to day business of it left me bored to tears and really with not much time to go ot and have fun and shoot.
